Our Story, Our Foundation
Cedar Shoals & Mill Beginnings
Porterdale's roots stretch back to the Cedar Shoals settlement, where the power of the Yellow River was harnessed to establish a thriving textile mill, shaping the very fabric of our community.
A Pioneering Kindergarten
A testament to early community values, Porterdale founded one of the nation's first kindergartens for mill-mothers in 1903, championed by visionaries like Miss Annie Laurie Jefferson, emphasizing education and care.
Yellow River & Downtown Heart
The Yellow River and our historic downtown remain the undisputed heart of Porterdale, central to our identity, history, and ongoing community life.
National Historic Recognition
Our unique mill village earned a coveted spot on the National Register of Historic Places, preserving the architectural and cultural legacy of an entire era.
Preserving for Tomorrow
By safeguarding our architectural treasures and collective memories, we ensure that Porterdale's past serves as a robust foundation for its vibrant future.
Values Guiding Vision
We connect our historical values of education, industry, and community spirit directly to our vision for today, fostering a town where heritage and progress coexist.
Honoring While Innovating
Our commitment is to build new opportunities and foster growth while always honoring the rich heritage that makes Porterdale unique, blending tradition with forward-thinking development.
"Our history is not a burden to be carried, but a compass by which we navigate our future."
Why I’m Running
I decided to run because I realized that Porterdale has become the highest cost/ lowest value place to live in our area — and that’s not right.
After talking with neighbors, I kept hearing the same thing: people moved here because they remembered what Porterdale used to be decades ago, or they believed in what it could become. But right now, the reality is different. Our infrastructure is aging, our services are unreliable, and our taxes and utilities are far higher than they should be.
Even worse, the people who make this city work — our police officers, our seniors, our longtime residents — are not being prioritized or properly supported. Public safety should be strengthened, not sidelined. Our officers deserve the tools, resources, and respect to keep our community safe. And our seniors, who built this city and continue to give it heart, deserve more attention, care, and access to the services they’ve earned.
By the way, I love Porterdale just as much as my opponent does. We all do. I’m not running against her because she’s done something wrong — on the contrary, I just can’t tell that she’s done anything at all.
Porterdale deserves more. It deserves leadership with a plan — leadership that listens, acts, and delivers.
Don’t waste another four years on stagnation and complacency.
Vote 4 me, and I’ll go to work 4 Porterdale.
"I didn't plan to run. But I couldn't stay quiet about what I saw."

How We Plan to Pay for Progress
The Carter Plan is built on a foundation of strategic growth and fiscal responsibility. We're committed to funding these vital community initiatives through new, sustainable revenue streams, ensuring a brighter future for Porterdale without burdening our existing residents.
New Data Center Franchise Fees
A significant portion of our new funding will come from franchise fees generated by the upcoming data center. This enterprise brings state-of-the-art infrastructure and a substantial, ongoing revenue stream directly into our community's budget.
Industrial Bypass Annexation
The strategic annexation of the industrial bypass property will introduce new property taxes and additional franchise fees. This expansion of our tax base ensures a diversified and robust financial foundation for the Carter Plan.
Investing in Community, Not Raising Your Taxes
These new revenue sources are carefully calculated to fund the Carter Plan's ambitious goals. We are committed to improving our city and investing in our future without increasing the tax burden on current Porterdale residents.
Long-Term Fiscal Planning
Our approach emphasizes long-term fiscal planning and sustainability. We are establishing robust budgeting practices to ensure that these initiatives are not only funded today, but remain viable and beneficial for generations to come.
Transparency & Accountability
Every dollar will be tracked and allocated with utmost transparency. We will provide regular, clear reports on budget allocation and spending priorities, ensuring accountability and effective use of public funds.
